They learn valuable life and work skills like teamwork, leadership, and citizenship. Cadets also reap the personal benefits of increased self-confidence and physical fitness, learning how to take initiative, and how to make decisions. Cadets make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of environmental, citizenship and community activities. Our program is designed to educate and train Canadian youth in respect, self-discipline, and citizenship within a naval structure. The objectives include the physical, mental and moral training of children ages 9 through 13. Our governing body is The Navy League of Canada. On Wednesday nights we start at 6:30pm and go until 9:30pm. We also have optional training days throughout the year. The Navy League Cadet program offers Canada's youth a wide selection of opportunities, and provides them with the proper naval training required should they decide to move up to Sea Cadets (which caters to young adults between the ages of 13 and 18), or even later in life should they decide to join the Navy. They are taught various subjects related to the Navy, such as Seamanship, first aid and canoeing, and participate in various activities and events within the community, including Remembrance Day Parades and Canada Day celebrations. Cadets are trained and supervised by skilled and motivated volunteers. Navy League Officers and Instructors come from many different backgrounds and professions. They all have one thing in common; an interest in developing our nation’s youth. In addition to each officer’s unique background and skills, all officers and instructors receive training from The Navy League of Canada. This training provides all staff with the skills required to work with today’s youth. All volunteers are carefully screened by The Navy League of Canada, including personal background checks. At Navy League Cadets, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and learn many new skills, which include Sailing and canoeing, Seamanship and Ropework, Marching and Precision Drill Teams, Naval Terminology, Air Rifle Safety & Marksmanship, and Map & Compass. We also instill community spirit into young people, and give them a sense of duty. Values such as self-discipline, self-confidence, and respect for others, that they can still apply long after they've left the cadet world. Many shy and withdrawn young people have joined Navy League, and have later turned out to be exemplary leaders. several other activities and community events, such as Military Commemorative Parades, Weekend Camps, Formal Mess Dinners, Seasonal Parties, Wake-A-Thons, Skating & Swimming, and much much more.
