FEATURED VEHICLE OF THE MONTH 1938 PontiacRon HoughtonHeritage 35I purchased the '38 in August of 1975, a few months after my daughter Heather was born. It was rather a bold move having now 2 young children in the family but my wife Vicki was quite understanding, and still is, regarding my interest in old cars. I had been looking for a 1930's Chevrolet when my dad spotted this car driving in London, my brother was with him and he jotted the number posted in the the back window. I went over the next day and bought the car within 5 minutes, didn't even take it for a test drive. Yes, it was priced right! Our family has enjoyed 'OL BABE over the years attending Normoska's, Family Picnic's, Blossom Tours and many Tri-Lakes functions. It has been a very reliable car having been towed home only twice in thirty years of use, once with a broken axle and another time a stripped timing gear. A couple of roadside repairs were also done but we came home under its own power. The car is substantially an unrestored original with 75% original paint, all original interior, trunk and driveline. It was off the road a few years in the late eighties for a motor freshen up, rings, valves etc. I had intended to restore the car but decided that since "they are only original once" I would try and keep the car as original as possible maintaining and repairing it as required. This particular car is all Canadian and was the cheapest in the line being $1001.00 brand new. The car was named the Special Six. It really is a Chev body with a Pontiac front end and the OHV 216.5 Chev engine. It came with a straight front axle and 4 leaf springs, yet rides and drives very well. Originally coming with only 1 tail light, 1 sun visor, 1 wiper and no radio, so it was very plain. However, it did have a column gear shift, dubbed "safety shift", being one of the first for mass produced cars in America. I hope to continue to drive this car in the coming years. It's probably the only old car I really ever needed!
