This is a 30% increase over last year's total of 46,740. Most interesting is that 2004's grilse count of 45,770 (compared to 2003's 31,180) suggests that 2005 should be a good year for large salmon as a high run of grilse one year usually means a high return of large salmon the following year! The Miramichi River's fame rests primarily on its unmatched ability to produce Atlantic Salmon, the King of game fish. Every year Some 100,000 fish make their way up the river. The Miramichi produces nearly one half of all rod-caught salmon in North America. New Brunswick rivers usually yield over 30,000 fish for anglers' flies.
